Frequently asked questions.
My old door sticks and won’t latch. Can you fix it without replacing it?
Often, yes. A sticking door in an older Bellingham home is usually a jamb that’s gone out of plumb or hinges that have loosened, not a bad door. We can re-hang the existing slab, plane the edge, reset the hinges, and move the strike so it latches again. If the slab itself is warped or water-swollen, replacing just the slab is the fix.
What’s the difference between pre-hung and slab, and which do I need?
A pre-hung door comes already mounted in its own jamb, so it’s the move when the old frame is shot or you’re changing the opening. A slab is just the door, re-hung on your existing jamb, which is cheaper and right when the frame and casing are fine. We’ll tell you which fits your opening when we look at it.
Are solid-core doors worth it?
If you want quiet, yes. Solid-core doors knock down sound between bedrooms, offices, and bathrooms in a way you feel right away, and they have the heft of a much newer home. They cost more than hollow-core and weigh more, so the hinges and jamb have to be set right, which is exactly the part we handle.
