The Lettered Streets, the grid just north of downtown where the avenues run A, B, C and so on, is one of Bellingham’s oldest platted areas. It is full of late-1800s and early-1900s cottages and foursquares with real period character: tall baseboards, deep casing, and the kind of original trim that gives a house its bones. Owners here care about keeping that character intact.
Finish carpentry in the Lettered Streets is constant matching and scribing. The walls are out of square, the floors slope, and the original profiles are out of production, so new trim, wainscot, and built-ins have to be fit to the house and matched to what is there.
